The 2012 NFL season began with a referee lockout that lasted three weeks into the season. The lockout’s end can partly be attributed to the final play of “Monday Night Football” when the Seahawks faced off against the Packers on September 24, 2012. The clock was winding down, and the Seahawks were leading 12-7, and the Seahawks launched a Hail Mary pass toward the end zone. Green Bay safety Jennings caught this pass with two hands, but Seattle wide receiver Tate had one hand on the ball. Tate pushed off before the ball came down, and officials missed both plays and falsely awarded a touchdown to Seattle. This ruling caused outrage and embarrassment among all parties involved and became known as "The Fail Mary." Two days after the game, an agreement was reached to end the lockout, and there is no way this was just a coincidence.
